The Investigative Consultant can be defined as an expert in investigative techniques and logical-inferential reasoning. They do not belong to law enforcement, but can effectively assist them, magistrates, and especially lawyers in carrying out their activities; they can collaborate with a private investigator and provide valuable consultations to lawyers and, more generally, to anyone intending to carry out any activity of information acquisition and evaluation. Theoretical and practical skills are necessary for the investigative consultant to propose an analysis of their investigative method, researching its conceptual origins and premises. Finally, they consider the concrete operational areas in which this figure is able to provide their professional contribution and the legal frameworks within which they can legitimately operate (as an expert, technical consultant, assistant to the judicial police, etc.) The Investigative Consultant, through the defense attorney, can intervene when police investigations do not lead to any solution or there is a real need to defend oneself from an unjust and defamatory criminal accusation.
